Joe’s Champs

Joe’s Champs, named in honor of our late founder, Joe Robert, is a free program designed to improve the educational experiences of three- to eight-year-olds in DC and to lay the foundation for their future success.

We work with school leaders and teachers in our partner schools to improve and strengthen the quality of their early childhood programs. Joe’s Champs has two phases, each lasting two years, which are designed to:

Phase 1

Build knowledge of school leaders as instructional leaders of high quality early childhood education classrooms, with a specific focus on prekindergarten.

Phase 2

Build capacity of entire school teams to create a cohesive support system for students that is aligned from prekindergarten all the way through third grade.

By the Numbers

Since it’s inception in 2013, Joe’s Champs has impacted:

4,500+ early childhood students
300 teachers
60 leaders
30 schools

EW Stokes’ partnership with Joe’s Champs and Fight for Children over the past several years has helped us empower our early childhood teachers and leaders to improve the instruction of young children and create a developmentally-appropriate and rigorous ECE program. Joe’s Champs has supported us in structuring professional development and coaching for our teachers, identifying needs based on data, and developing strategic goals. The practices Joe’s Champs has supported us to implement have spread into our elementary grades, and the instructional culture at Stokes is much stronger as a result. Thank you!
