Fight For Children Board of Directors Dr. Kurt Newman Kurt Newman, MD is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Children's National Medical Center in Washington, DC. Prior to his appointment as President and CEO in September 2011, Dr. Newman was Surgeon-in-Chief and Executive Director of the Joseph E. Robert, Jr., Center for Surgical Care at Children's National, Washington, DC. Dr. Newman has been an attending surgeon at Children's National since 1986 and has a special expertise in the surgery of children with thyroid cancer and liver tumors. Dr. Newman is an expert in clinical resource management and has served as a consultant to several children's hospitals in conjunction with the Child Health Corporation of America. He is the author or co-author of many publications and is also Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at the George Washington University School of Medicine. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Children’s Hospital Foundation, member of the Board of Commissioners of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations, and member of the Board of Governors of the American Pediatric Surgical Association. He is Chairman-designate of the Surgery Section of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Newman graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of North Carolina
and received his medical education at Duke University. He began his surgical
training in the Harvard program at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in
Boston, rising to the level of chief resident. Kurt and his wife Alison,
a neonatal nurse practitioner, live in Bethesda, Maryland and have two
sons, Jack and Robert. He enjoys traveling with his family, cycling and
coaching soccer. |
